Year 1: Happy Hippos & Amazing Ants

Our Autumn 1 Topic is 'The Great Fire of London'

                                                                      Important Bits

 

Reading: Pupils can change their reading books when they have finished reading them at home. The children are learning to become more independent with this task.

Spellings: Year 1 pupils will be sent home a spelling rule and common exception words (the rule will have been practised in class during the week). You can find these in their reading logs. 

Homework: Homework will alternate each week between Maths with Parents and a topic or writing piece. 

Overview by subject

Literacy: In class we are reading "Beegu". We are learning how to segment simple words and are beginning to write simple sentences. We will eventually be building up to writing a simple guide to Earth! 

Maths: Our new Maths skills will include place value. We will be learning to find one more and one less than a number and recognise numerals and numbers as words.

Science: This term the children will be learning about materials, explore new language and will be learning about properties. The children will be investigating different materials to build houses.

Art and Design: We are looking at the work, life and art style of Wassily Kandinsky

Computing: This term we are learning how to stay safe online.

PE: Agility skills and basic football skills. 

RE: We are teaching Christianity and learning about the creation story.

Music: Our song is called ‘Hey You!’ We are practising our listening skills and finding a beat.
