World Book Day

World Book Day

For World Book Day, we celebrated the importance of non-fiction, recognising that it is just as valuable as fiction. Children brought in and shared a range of non-fiction texts linked to their interests, hobbies and passions.

Throughout the day, we explored how reading helps us learn new skills and understand the world around us, whether that is following instructions to build something, learning the rules of a game, researching a favourite topic or discovering new interests. At Rushden Primary Academy, we know that "the will influences the skill". When children are motivated to read about things they love, they develop both their knowledge and their reading abilities. 📚✨

Previous World Book Day Celebrations:

Children arrived at school in their pyjamas, helping to create a cosy reading atmosphere and celebrating the joy of reading for pleasure. They also took part in our story stone competition, transforming rocks into characters from their favourite books. This imaginative activity encouraged children to talk about stories, retell events and share their love of reading with others.

The creativity on display was fantastic, and it was wonderful to see so many children inspired by the books they enjoy.

Have a look at some of our amazing creations below! 📚✨

Shared Reading:

Throughout the morning, children took part in shared reading sessions with pupils from different year groups, coming together to enjoy and discuss their favourite books. It was a truly heart-warming experience to see our older children reading alongside and supporting our younger pupils, helping to bring stories to life and foster a love of reading across the school. These special partnerships not only promoted reading for pleasure but also helped to build confidence, communication skills and a strong sense of community among our children. 📚✨

We also celebrated our class teachers favourite stories by playing ‘The Masked Reader’. The children had so much fun watching the animals read extracts from a story and tried to guess which teacher was which. The buzz was incredible!
